  1. Here is the 5:30 CBC news story. Plenty of bluster about license suspension or cancellation, but I'd be shocked if anything more than a fine (max. $20,000) was imposed. They're probably much more worried about damage to their image.

  2. Message to Matthew Black. Fact checking. I know there are smaller budgets in newsrooms but basic fact check is ALWAYS in order when reporting verbatim from sales people. In fact, journalists should always present the other side. I think you've just discovered that other side online.

  3. Whisperer - congratulations and thank-you for all your work. I've been a near daily reader for a long time. Looks like all your efforts are finally beginning to take hold.

  4. Honestly,I had no idea this was happening! It was a couple of rogue employees acting completely on their own! No need to investigate us any further, we'll get to the bottom of this. We're just as outraged as you are!

  6. Awesome, now it's time to go after Cam Good and Key West Marketing who did exactly the same thing in April last year and got away with it:

For those of you who don't know who Cam Good is, he's the guy behind the Yellow Helicopter scam as well. And here is what he has to say about all of you non-homeowners:

"“If you suffer from real estate impotence, don’t blame Chinese people. Besides, getting all worked up about it will only make it worse. Have a glass of wine. Relax. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and pick up the phone to call a realtor or a mortgage broker, either of whom will be more than happy to show you how easy it can be to get your real estate groove on."

    1. ... despite saying yesterday

"Why should I cover a story that I wrote was a scam more than a year ago? This is simply the latest evidence of how HAM never existed as a pervasive market force in Vancouver. I said that back in the ‘yellow helicopter’ days. — Garth"

  10. Whispered YOU did this. It was your well written, well documented posts that are responsible for bringing out the truth.

The reason the media ran with it is because you made a nice package which for them. You used the real estate PR machines tactic and it worked.

    I owe you a drink.

    Thanks.

  11. This blog is going big time now! I've seen this blog mentioned today in both the globe and mail and the Vancouver sun. Whisperer has just shown the lame stream media how to do real journalism! Well done! Thank you for the public service!

  14. Whisperer, I have more meat for you...

The sun is running the story as well, and here is what Tyler Davies, communications officer at the Real Estate Council of British Columbia, said:

"he had never heard of any situation similar to this before, but that as the provincial regulating body for realtors, the council does have the authority to impose fines or to suspend or cancel real estate licences.

“We were alerted to this by another media outlet,” Davies said. “We are aware of it and the real estate council has commenced an investigation into this matter.”"

As it turns out, this is another lies. After Global run the story of the Groupon-like service provided by Key West Marketing, in which Tara Fluet is presented as a "White Rock Investor" where she was in fact a Key West employee (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tara-fluet/1a/347/7b6), a blogger called M submitted a complaint to RECBC, and here is what he says:

"I submitted a complaint about this to RECBC after the episode aired last year. RECBC (the regulatory body for realtors) promptly assigned an investigator to the case, who has never followed up. So even the industry regulator can’t be bothered."

So this is another lie right there!

  18. Andrea Woo updated her article on The Globe:

"This is the latest in a number of questionable marketing tactics to be exposed within Metro Vancouver’s real estate community. During a media blitz announcing the Groupon-style sale of units at a Surrey condo development last year, one woman identified to a television news crew as an eager local investor was in fact a sales manager for Key Marketing, the company behind the scheme.

That same company has also taken groups of Chinese buyers on helicopter tours of Metro Vancouver properties, and at least one of those trips was believed to be misleading. Garth Turner, a business journalist and former politician, reported the Chinese buyers on a Feburary, 2011, trip – on which several media outlets were invited – were in fact local real-estate agents and brokers and the trip was meant to promote a new condo development.

Cam Good, president of The Key, which includes Key Marketing, was a partner at MAC Marketing Solutions from 2004 to 2009, according to his LinkedIn page."

Cam Good, we're going at you now, sucker!

    1. Scam Good

he invented this BS, that's why he does not have a company website for nearly a year, because it makes it much harder to fact check his BS public relations machine !

  19. Cam Good is actually the pioneer of dishonest marketing techniques. Do they even work? Are people really that stupid? What am I saying...the long lineup of people who were paid to sit for 24 hrs in Burnaby ?
